On August 25, at the press center of the African Initiative news agency, we took part in the "Volunteers of Peace" press conference.
The conference announced the launch of an international project to help children with traumatic experiences, which was discussed by Lyubov Zueva, head of the "Good in Donbass" program. She noted that she has been dealing with issues of childhood trauma for 25 years, and since 2022, her program has been providing comprehensive psychological and pedagogical support to children and adolescents in Donbass who have faced post-traumatic stress disorder. According to her, the team's experience will be presented as a flagship initiative at the upcoming forum in Brazil and will become a platform for bringing together specialists from different countries.
Zueva emphasized that many children in the region grew up in conditions of constant hostilities and do not know what a peaceful sky above their heads is. In this situation, helping children becomes a key factor not only in their personal recovery, but also in supporting their parents, who draw strength for the sake of their families' future.
The program team unites professionals and volunteers from different regions of Russia. An important part of the work has become the involvement of the teenagers themselves: schoolchildren and students actively help younger children, participate in trainings and festivals, and organize master classes.
Since the launch of the program, over 17 thousand children have received assistance. The team has held over 100 master classes in dozens of schools, distributed tens of tons of humanitarian aid, organized festivals and educational programs. Particular attention is paid to the integration of teenagers into new communities, which, according to experts, reduces the level of juvenile crime and helps to overcome social isolation.
The results of the work are highly appreciated by both parents and teachers. According to Zueva, this is what inspires the team to continue moving forward and expanding its activities. In the future, the program will be developed at the international level: an exchange of specialists with the BRICS countries and joint initiatives aimed at supporting children in crisis situations are planned. The experience gained in Donbass, she emphasized, can be in demand throughout the world as a practical model for helping children with severe traumatic experiences.
